What is a tympanic thermometer?A tympanic thermometer is a thermometer that measures the temperature of the tympanic membrane. The hypothalamus, a small area of the brain, regulates body temperature and it shares the same blood supply as the tympanic membrane. Therefore, core body temperature may be measured faster and more accurately in the tympanic membrane than other areas of the body.
What are infrared thermometers for?Infrared thermometers are used to measure temperature from a distance, meaning temperature can be taken with no contact. In forehead mode, this thermometer measures temperature from a distance of 1cm.
